There are a lot of fishing outfitters in Montana, so why should you book a guided trip with Brant Oswald Fly Fishing Services?
Consider these reasons to make us your first choice as a fly fishing outfitter for south central Montana:
- Experience
You could choose us because we have decades of experience on the waters we fish. Brant and the select group of guides who work with him have each spent hundreds of days fishing and guiding on the waters on which we offer guided trips. We have put in our days at all times of year, in all weather conditions, and with anglers of every skill level. This familiarity with our home waters can’t guarantee a boatload of big fish every time out, but it does guarantee that we will make the most of your precious fishing time in Montana. - Instruction
One of the best reasons to book a trip with us is to learn new angling techniques or to work on improving the skills you have learned. We all love to teach, and instruction is emphasized on almost every trip. Learning a new skill – or finally understanding and mastering one you thought you knew – will make your investment in guide fees pay dividends long after the trip is done. - Fun
We may pride ourselves on our long experience and our fishing and guiding expertise, but we also haven’t forgotten that a fishing trip is supposed to be fun. There is no need to worry about prima donnas on our guide staff – we are patient, good-natured, and have not lost our sense of humor. We are professional and safety-conscious, but we will do our best to make sure you have a fun and enjoyable experience on the water.
All trips are conducted under the supervision of Brant Oswald, Montana Outfitter License #1581

SPRING CREEK TRIPS
Trips on the area spring creeks are a specialty of our guide service. Fishing the Paradise Valley spring creeks – Armstrong, Nelson’s and DePuy’s is one of the main reasons anglers travel to the Livingston/Bozeman area of Montana. Brant has spent much of his career on the spring creek fisheries of the western US, and he has introduced hundreds of anglers to the challenges and rewards of these waters. Our experience and knowledge of hatches and technique on these streams is unmatched.
Float Trips
Floating a big river in a drift boat is one of the essential Western fishing experiences. We are based in Livingston, so the lion’s share of our float trips are conducted on our home river, the Yellowstone. We hold US Forest Service permits to use accesses on the upper river, so we can provide a variety of floating experiences on the Yellowstone: anywhere from Gardiner through the Paradise Valley, on the stretches near Livingston, and down to Big Timber and beyond. In this stretch of over 80 miles of trout water, an angler can enjoy a variety of scenery and fishing opportunities.
In addition to the Yellowstone, our guides are familiar with a number of other floatable rivers in the area, including the upper and lower Madison, Missouri, and Bighorn. Some of these destinations are far enough away to make them impractical for a day trip, but we can help book accommodations for an extended stay on one of these rivers.
Stillwater Trips
Another specialty of our guide service are trips on the lakes and ponds in the area. Stillwater fishing provides the best opportunity for visiting anglers who wish to target larger fish, and they can provide quality fishing at times of the year when many rivers and streams are unfishable due to runoff conditions.
Most of the private lakes we fish are big enough to fish from a drift boat, but we can also fish some of the smaller lakes from float tubes or kick boats. As with the private spring creeks, the landowners on the private ponds require reservations and charge a daily access fee.
